Noel Fisher - A Character Study
So, I was just reading through Tumblr - as you do - and I came across a reply that someone had written to a question they had been asked.
I read their answer, but I didn't agree with it. It's one that can have many opinions by the way, but I wanted to make my own reply without it looking like I was jumping on theirs. So I'm doing it here. The question she was asked was:
worst noel fisher character (morally etc.?)/worst noel fisher character you've actually felt sympathy for?/nicest n.f. character?
Noel's worst/most morally wrong character: The person in question chose Dale Stuckey. Stuckey, for me, was, let's say, overenthusiastic? I don't think he started out with any intention of killing anyone. He was trying to do his job in the best way he knew how (which, okay, wasn't very good) and kept being literally put down and humiliated in front of anyone until he flipped. His morals were misguided but I don't think Stuckey was ever truly evil - he just snapped.
My pick for most morally wrong character was Danny in Red. Here was a kid who literally had no qualms about walking up to a man, stealing from him and shooting his dog right there, and then in the next instant pretending to know nothing about any of it. Yes, Danny made me shudder with his detestableness. One of Noel's characters that I actually did not love to hate. Played very very well.
Worst noel fisher character you've actually felt sympathy for: Here their answer was Mickey Milkovich. I disagree here too. He makes life much harder for himself than he has to, and he has the ways and means to get himself out of any situation too. Plus, I can't call Mickey a "bad" character. He's a ruffian for sure, but it's all for show.
Yes my choice for this one was Owen Johnson in Noel's episode of Standoff. I don't want to give too much of the plot of this episode away because if you haven't seen it, it has a twist in it that you won't see coming (or well at least I didn't!) but it's great. Owen is, of course, a nasty piece of work, but you have to see why. And when you do... that's when you feel sorry for him.
Oh and that episode of Cold Case too. Where he plays a real Mickey-type grumpy, angry army recruit at a military academy, but the story behind it all is just so heartbreaking....
