Driving Observations
I went to a gig last night in London. (more on this later)
(Side note: At 33 years old, I do not feel suitably qualified to say the word "gig", but it wasn't a concert, so gig it is!)
I drove down there, over 200 miles, and then drove home again afterwards, leaving after midnight and getting into my bed at almost 4am. The things I do to save money *rolls eyes*
I learned a few things on my journey.
- People do NOT use their indicators any more. It appears that they think it's okay to simply pull out in front of you with no warning and expect you to know that they were going to do it. I suppose it's a good for our reactions??? I know there was some talk recently of making everyone re-take their driving test after a certain period of time or else they have their licences rescinded. I'm beginning to think this is a good idea.
- People do not understand the "Average speed limit" signs. For those of you not in the know, on certain stretches of motorway, there are roadworks and they have 50mph average speed limits. Cameras are set up at intervals to monitor speeds. i.e. they know how long it takes to get between two cameras going at 50mph. If you get from one to another FASTER than this time, they KNOW you were going faster than 50, so slowing down each time you see a camera makes no difference at all.
- London drivers are all very inconsiderate bastards who don't give a crap about anyone else on the road*
- White van drivers (whether plain white or plastered with some kind of advert) drive their vans like bats out of hell. I had my cruise control set at a *ahem* little over 70 and they were all literally FLYING past me.
- There are a surprising amount of cars still on the road at 2-3am on a Friday morning o_O
- Heart FM plays all '80s, all night.
*Disclaimer - this is a HUGE generalisation, but certainly indicative of those I encountered yesterday.
